The Mensa
Mensa is the Italian word for canteen. The canteen here is very different from the ones I had at IUT PARIS DESCARTES.
The canteen is a hundred meters from the university of Pula. It is a one-story building, with the canteen part on the ground floor and the pizzeria part which is located on the first floor. Mensa is open 7 days a week (yes you are not dreaming, Sundays too) from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The menus are very balanced with most often a soup or broth as an appetizer. Are you a vegan? No worries, vegan menus are provided. What I really like is that you can easily find some local culinary specialties in main dishes such as ćevapi or gnocchi. When you arrive at the cash desk, you must present your student card to benefit from the 70% student promotion. The price of a meal in the canteen varies between 7 kn (€ 1) and 10 kn (€ 1.30), depending on what you have chosen. One small dampener: there is no carafe of water, you have to pay for a bottle of water.

As for the pizzeria, I would say that it is one of the favorite places for students. The atmosphere is very calm with a little background music. Students meet there most often to enjoy their pizza with friends or to study while eating. The pizza is made in front of the students and is homemade by a pizza maker. There is a wide choice of pizza: from Margarita to Vegetarian to Regina. There is something for everyone and especially for all budgets since a pizza costs 6 kuna (or € 0.80) and 8 kuna (or € 1.10) with the box to take away.
Eating in the cafeteria seems to me to be the most affordable way of eating for a student.
