Rijeka

I have visited Rijeka several times this year. Rijeka is about 110km (or 1h30) from Pula, and everything like. This city in the region of Istria is the third largest city in Croatia in terms of number of inhabitants. I visited Rijeka for the first time in December with friends. For 12 € (round trip), we went there by bus. On the bus, we met two college students from Rijeka who offered to show us around the city. We first went to Rijeka College with them. We visited the campus from this freshly renovated college. We even ate at the university restaurant thanks to our X-cards (valid in all university restaurants in Croatia). The meals in this canteen are cheaper (5 kunas for a meal) and better than those of the university of Pula for my taste.

The port city of Rijeka, on Kvarnerk Bay, on the Adriatic Sea, has been chosen by Brussels to become European Capital of Culture 2020. Its cultural and architectural heritage is very rich. After visiting the campus of the University of Rijeka, we therefore visited the Gradina Trsat (Castle Trsat). This monument is located on a hill above Rijeka and offers a spectacular view of the Kvarner bay. Trsat Castle houses a gallery with art exhibitions, and hosts summer concerts and open-air theater performances, as well as fashion shows and literary evenings. On Christmas, the castle had been magnificently decorated. After that, we visited the city center, and we went to have a drink in a traditional Croatian bar before going back to Pula.
